The experimental cancer therapy laboratory was inaugurated in April 2022. This laboratory is adjacent to and in constant communication with the CRIS (Cancer Research Innovation Science) Phase I unit and oncology patients.
This transversal unit is made up of a principal investigator, who is also a medical doctor in oncology, two postdoctoral researchers, and two predoctoral researchers.
The research staff is located on the first floor, south wing of the Hospital Clínico San Carlos, and develops different lines of cancer research. The unit has a cell culture room with a large bank of tumour cell lines and skills for the isolation and expansion of tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) and their subsequent phenotypic characterisation in collaboration with the Immunology Department of the hospital.
It also has equipment for the analysis of gene expression and proteomics (RT-PCR and Western Blot), a fluorescence microscope, equipment for the detection and isolation of circulating tumour cells (Isoflux), and a common room with computers for the use of all the unit’s staff.

Extraction, isolation, and expansion of tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs)
Identification of therapeutic targets by in silico genomic analysis in specific pathological conditions:
Identification of biomarkers of activity or response: Using the same methodology described above, it will be possible to identify transcriptomic markers or genomic structural alterations associated with medical conditions, such as response or resistance to a given treatment.
Antigen design and antibody development (outsourced service):
Pre-clinical evaluation of compounds-non-clinical pharmacology (TILs)
Cell culture techniques using cell lines and primary tissue:
The Biobank is attached to 2 external committees:
Laminar flow hood
CO2 incubator
Isoflux
Fluorescence microscope
Absorbance spectrophotometer
