The Digestive System research group focuses on research into diseases of the digestive system, both epidemiological and clinical, as well as pathogenic and pathophysiological aspects. The group’s research focuses on:

• To understand the impact of functional digestive disorders and GERD in our society and in clinical practice, to look for factors associated with suffering from these diseases, and to improve diagnostic and therapeutic management in clinical practice.
• Genetic factors related to the natural history and response to treatment in viral hepatitis and pathogenic, pathophysiological, clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic aspects of liver diseases.
• The study of inflammatory bowel disease (in collaboration with the Clinical Immunology and Radiodiagnostic Services): identification of susceptibility polymorphisms, epidemiology, use of radiological tests, implementation of MRI enterography as a technique in the diagnosis and therapeutic management of Crohn’s disease, and treatment response studies).
• Motor activity of the digestive system: physiological studies, new diagnostic methods and techniques, genetics of diseases with digestive motor disorders, assessment of therapeutic alternatives.
